Abstract

1,128,848. Pesticidal water-in-oil emulsions. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 30 March, 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23556/66. Heading A5E. A sprayable pesticidal oil-in-water emulsion comprises a toxicant (pesticide), a disperse aqueous phase, and a continuous phase formed from an oil-based polyolefin composition comprising an oil (water-immiscible inert organic solvent), at least one emulsifier for promoting water-in-oil emulsions and at least one solid polyolefin present in up to 10% by weight of the oil-based composition. The toxicant may be in the aqueous and/or oil phase and specified are amine and alkali metal salts and esters of phenoxy acetic acids, Azodrin, Bidrin (Trade Mark), Phosdrin (Trade Mark), Diquat, Paraquat, Aldrin, Dieldrin, Endrin, Malathion (Trade Mark), Parathion, methyl Parathion, 2- chloro-1-(2, 4, 5-trichlorophenyl) vinyl dimethyl ester of phosphoric acid, pyrethrum, piperonyl butoxide, and aminotriazole. The invention also includes oil-based polyolefin/ toxicant compositions suitable for making the sprayable emulsions, and also a method for improving the yield of crops at a locus by application of the sprayable pesticidal emulsion.
