Abstract

[Also in Division E2] A vehicle door assembly comprises a door 1 pivoted to a pillar 3 by a hinge panel 2 and an adjustable rod 11, the pivot points 4, 13, 9 and 14 forming a four-sided linkage by which the door when opened moves bodily and angularly with respect to the vehicle side. The door has a latch at its rear edge and in closing the front edge closes against a resilient weatherstrip before the rear edge closes. The planes joining pivot points 4, 9 and 13, 14 are not parallel, but the planes joining pivot points 4, 13 and 9, 14 may be parallel or oblique. The hinge panel is made from a pair of embossed plates welded together face-to-face, to form between them hollow stiffening portions. The panel may alternatively be made from an open frame covered with a trim material. A triangular piece of flexible trim material may be fixed between the panel 2 and the door 1 to cover the rod 11.
