Abstract

1,128,640. Fuels. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 27 July, 1967 [28 Sept., 1966], No. 43366/66. Heading C5C. A fuel comprises a major proportion of a distillate hydrocarbon oil, 98 vol. per cent of which distils below 400‹ C. and which has an ash content not exceeding 0À01 wt. per cent and 1-500 p.p.m. of a phosphorus-containing ester which is the reaction product of one mole of R(OH) x , where R is a C 1- C 3 hydrocarbon radical and x is an integer greater than 1, and 0À5-x moles of a mixture of (A) a C 50 + hydrocarbon substituted succinic acid or a halide, ester or anhydride thereof and (B) a phosphorus acid or halide, ester or anhydride thereof or phosphorus sulphide or oxysulphide, the ratio of (A): (B) being 0À1:1 to 10: 1. The fuel may also contain N,N<SP>1</SP>-disalicylidine-1,2-propane diamine, phenolic antioxidants (examples being given) and triphenyl phosphate.
