Apparatus for measuring the moisture content of a solid, liquid or gas comprises an A. C. bridge circuit as shown in which diodes D 1 ,D 2 prevent milli-voltmeter or milli-ammeter V from registering unless the resistance between the measuring electrodes E 1 , E 2 is below a value determined by the resistances R 1 and R 2 . The circuit is particularly intended to control the admission of water to a vat for making concrete and may cut off the water supply automatically when the resistance drops below a certain value. Resistances R 1 , R 1 ', R 1 " are all similar but may have their sliders set to correspond to different hardnesses of concrete. Diode D 2 also limits the power consumption of the bridge, which is advantageous when the A. C. supply is a battery powered transistor oscillator.
