Obstruction-removers. - An obstruction-remover or guard for motor-vehicles comprises a transverse bar 12, Fig. 1, resiliently supported on the frame of the vehicle by means of leaf springs 25, each of which is formed with a curved central portion 26 connected to the bar 12 and with rear converging portions 27 terminating in parallel arms 28 adapted for attachment to brackets 14 on the vehicle frame. In order to adapt the bar 12 to frames of various widths, each spring 25 is clamped to the bar 12 by a fitting 30, Fig. 2, pressed against the spring by aT-headed bolt 47, which engages one pair of a series of holes 50 in the bar 12 and is adjusted by a nut 53 bearing against the fitting 30. The brackets 14 are adapted for attachment to frame members 10 of various widths by forming them with downwardly tapering pockets 19, Fig. 3, which are engaged by angular bolts 18 clamping the sides of the frame members 10 and secured in position by nuts 23 against an under-plat.e 22 which is slotted for the passage of one of the bolts 18. Vertical and longitudinal adjustability of the bar 12 are attained by attaching each pair of arms 28 to a bracket 14 by two bolts 34, 35, the rear bolt 35 serving as a pivot and passing through one of a series of longitudinally arranged holes 37 in the brackets 14, and the forward bolt 34 passing through transverse slots 38 in the bracket and also through longitudinal slots 39 in the arms 28. The vertical adjustability may be further increased by arranging the bracket 14 to seat on the frame member 10 by a three-point bearing comprising two enlargements or transverse ribs 17 and an adjustable screw-stud 16.
