Abstract

1,127,480. Electromagnetic brakes. SIEMENS A.G. 22 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 57579/66. Heading F2E. An electromagnetic disc brake comprises a stator 4 secured to an end-plate 1 of an electric motor the shaft 2 of which is to be braked, a disc 7 secured to the shaft 2, a floating disc 9 slidable on hollow pins 8 secured to the disc 7 and having linings 10, 11, a fixed disc 12, a slidable disc 5 which carries an armature and is acted on by springs 6 to urge the discs 5 and 9 towards the disc 12, a stator magnet 4 which when energized overcomes the springs 6 to disengage the discs 5, 9, 12, and a set of weaker springs 13 arranged within the pins 8 and acting via split-pins 14 on the disc 9 to move the latter away from disc 12 and into contact with disc 7, on release of the brake. The relative movement between discs 9 and 7 during application and release of the brake is arranged to be half the magnet gap 16.
