Abstract
1,127,319. Shaped vanadium pentoxide. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 1. Dec., 1965,. No. 51030/65. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C7] Preparing a hard dense vanadium pentoxide shape which is resistant to degradation caused by impact and abrasion by contacting vanadium pentoxide having a particle size less than 10 mesh (Tyler scale) with water or an aqueous solution of an acid, base or salt in which vanadium pentoxide is soluble, to form a mouldable vanadium pentoxide-water mixture, shaping the mixture, drying the shaped product at less than 300‹ C. and indurating at 500‹ to 660‹ C. in an oxidizing atmosphere. The pentoxide feed particles preferably comprise at. least 10% by weight smaller than 200 mesh. The vanadium pentoxide-water mixture may contain at least 5% water and the drying: temperature may be 200‹ C. Preferably the drying time is about 40% and the indurating time about 60%. of the total heating time.
