Abstract
1,126,779. Vacuum switches; motor controllers; electromagnetically and cam-operated switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 July, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 34464/66. Heading H1N. A controller comprises a plurality of vacuum switches 1 operated in sequence by individual cams 21 on a rotary shaft 5. The cam-shaft is driven by a handle 23 or (Fig. 5, not shown) by a ratchet wheel (55) intermittently advanced by pawls (53, 61) on the armatures of electromagnets (57, 59). The cams may be internal (Fig. 1, not shown) or external, the cam acting directly on the movable contact member of the vacuum switch (Fig. 4, not shown) or through a lever (33) (Fig. 3, not shown). The vacuum switches may be used to control A.C. traction or hoist motors by tap changing or resistance notching.
