Abstract

1,126,158. Fishing reels. PENN FISHING TACKLE MFG. CO. 24 Aug., 1967, No. 39067/67. Heading A1A. The rotatable spool 35 of a reel has a brake device comprising a friction disc 42 secured to a driving plate 19 and cooperating with a plate 37 secured to the spool whereby axial movement of the spool applies the brake. The spool is moved axially by rotation of a lever 75 which moves pins 65 along cam faces whereby the bearing 60 and thus the spool is moved. The lever 75 has a projection 81 which moves between two stops 83, 85 each of which can be depressed to allow further movement of the lever. The brake is initially set by rotation of knob 92 to screw member 63 whereby the axial position of the bearing 60 is adjusted. A pawl and cam connection between the driving plate 19 and the end plate 15 of the reel allows rotation of the spool in the winding-in direction with the brake applied.
