A device for use in preventing unauthorised removal of a ladder, comprising a bracket 10 capable of being attached to a fixation, the bracket being shaped to receive and support one of the sidepieces of the ladder, and a securing member 12 movably mounted on the bracket whereby to be movable into a securing position in which it presents removal of the sidepiece from the bracket, the arrangement being such that the securing member can be locked in this securing position. In the construction shown the bracket is U-shaped and one arm is provided with four securing holes one, 11b, near the bottom and the other three, 11, near the top of the arm and the securing member is hinged to the top of the arm with the holes and is L-shaped so that the vertical arm of the securing member hangs down parallel with the inside face of the U and covers the three top holes 11 so that when the bracket is secured to the fixture by screws through the holes the screws cannot be removed with the securing member in the securing position. The horizontal arm of the securing member extends forwardly and has a slot 14 through which the other arm of the U shaped bracket extends, the portion beyond the slot 14 in use having a large hole 16 through it through which the shackle of a padlock can be passed to lock the securing member in position. The ladder can be secured to the fixture either by using two of the devices or by using one of the devices and a hook for supporting opposite end portion of the ladder. The securing member can have a hole for the shackle of the padlock as an alternative to, or in addition to, the hole in the bracket.
