Abstract

1,125,807. Testing sheet material. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. Aug. 26, 1966 [Sept. 14, 1965], No.39243/65. Heading G1S. Apparatus for alternately stretching and relaxing test pieces 16 in at least two directions comprises at least three members 10 adapted to move backwards and forwards, means 17 for attaching a test piece to each of said members and means for providing each of said members with like pivoting movement about hinges 11. In the embodiments shown four members 10 are provided which are adapted to pivot outwardly and so stretch the test material in two directions at right angles. The members Fig. 2 may be pivoted outwardly by means of a reciprocating piston 5 which engages with an inclined inner surface 4 on the members 1. Alternatively the members may be moved by a rotating cam. The members are returned to their initial position by means of springs.
