Abstract

1,125,561. Reciprocating motors and pumps. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. (OPERATING) Ltd. Dec. 1, 1965 [Sept. 2, 1964], No. 35951/ 64. Heading F1A. A hydraulic motor or pump e.g. for incorporation in a vehicle wheel, comprises a cylinder block with radial or nearly radial pistons acting on a cam track 39 in the housing 24, the housing and cylinder block being rotatable relative to each other and the pistons acting on the cam track through connecting rods 32 engaging links pivoted on the cylinder block and carrying cam follower rollers 34, the longitudinal axis of each rod 32 passing through, or substantially through the axis of its associated roller. The connecting rods may be coupled to the pistons and links by pins or by part-spherical ball joints. A vehicle wheel may be fixed to the housing, and the cylinder block formed as a stub axle, a rotary valve integral with or connected to the housing extending through the cylinder block. Alternatively the valve and housing may be fixed and the cylinder block may rotate, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). There may be two or more banks of pistons controlled by axial movement of the rotary valve to give part or full capacity operation of the motor or pump Figs 4 and 5 (not shown).
