Abstract

1,124,571. Electric motors. G. STCHERBATCHEFF. 29 Sept., 1965 [30 Sept., 1964], No. 41374/65. Heading H2A. [Also in Division H1] The rotary armature 2 of an electromagnet, which may be used as a relay or an electric motor, has flanges at each end lying between stator poles excited by an annular, radially polarized permanent magnet 5 and a controlling coil 4 which diverts the flux to the inner or outer stator poles to produce rotary movement of the armature with or without axial movement. Rotary movement is produced by sectors (not shown) cut from the stator and armature polepieces. In the form shown, used for operating relay contacts (not shown), the armature pivots are carried on springs (not shown), permitting axial movement also. In the rotary D.C. motor shown in Fig. 7 the rotor carries a brush 40 engaging a commutator (not shown) on printed circuit winding 37. Alternatively, the exciting coil may be A.C. energized. Two such machines may be ganged together to operate with two commutators or from two-phase current. Various arrangements of tooth-pitch are described, e.g. the field teeth may have half the pitch of the armature teeth.
