Abstract

Compounds of the general formula ACHOHCH2NHCH(CH3)2 (wherein A represents 5-chloro-, 5,7-dichloro-or 5,7-dibromo-2-benzofuryl, or 2-ethyl-3-benzofuryl) and their acid addition salts are prepared by reacting ACHOHCH2X (wherein X=Cl or Br) with isopropylamine, optionally followed by salt formation. The starting materials are prepared by halogenating ACOCH3 and reducing the resulting ACOCH2X. The preparation of ACOCH3 is described. The compounds of the invention antagonize tachycardia provoked by sympathomimetic aminoethanols and combat stimulation of cardiac contraction produced by noradrenaline. They may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
