Abstract

1,122,966. Tandem axle suspensions. DAIMLER BENZ A.G. 3 May, 1967 [5 May, 1966], No. 20607/67. Heading B7D. In a tandem axle suspension, a driven axle 1 is mounted at the centre of a leaf spring 2 and an undriven wheel 6 is carried by a rocker arm 7 pivoted on a shaft 8, the end 10 of the rocker arm and the adjacent end of the leaf spring being connected by a link 9. A torsion bar spring 12 is anchored at 13 to the shaft 8 and bears upon a member 15 carried by the link 9 so as to apply a force to the axle 1 in the unloaded state of the vehicle which may be sufficient to raise the wheel 6 from the ground. When the vehicle is laden, the torsion spring 12 is relieved of force so that the vehicle load is distributed between the two sets of wheels 4 and 6. A stop 16 limits the movement of arm 7.
