Abstract

1,122,250. Strainer for pipe-line. ZURN INDUSTRIES Inc. 18 May, 1966, No. 22205/ 66. Heading BID. A strainer with inlet and outlet flanges (14, 15) for connection into a water mains comprises two axially spaced outward flow cylindrical strainer elements 34, 35 which operate in parallel and backwash arms 19 mounted on a common hollow shaft 22 which connects them to a drain 41 whereby the elements are backwashed by the downstream pressure as shaft 22 is manually rotated. Arms 19 may incorporate peripheral rubber shoes 22 which engage or are spaced 0.005 to 0.010 inch from inner cylindrical cages 36 whose vertical bars 49 divide and support the mesh elements 34, 35. The cages 36 have end rings 45 which seat on machined surfaces in the housing and cover and on C-shaped spacer 37 which is attached by a screw inside similar C-shaped ring 13 which is integral with the housing and embraces the inlet opening. The handwheel 23 may be replaced by a motor controlled by a differential pressure monitor. The housing has a further drain opening 42.
