In order to limit the pressure, applicable during use, to a porous writing tip (3) of a reservoir pen, the tip is yieldably mounted to retract under axial pressure into a rigid guide tip 10, which then supports the pen on the writing surface. The tip (3) may be extended from the guide tip 10 by the weight of reservoir 40 alone or, additionally, by the pressure of a weak coil, rubber or foam rubber spring located (at 6) above the reservoir. Alternatively, a coil spring (14, Fig. 5, not shown) is located in a compensating member (12). The porous tip (3) may be secured in a sleeve 13 which may have a flange 16 or extend into the reservoir 40 (Fig. 7, not shown). The guide tip 10 may be formed integrally with the casing (Figs. 1-5, not shown) and may be spherical (Fig. 8, not shown). As shown, a separate guide tube 18 has an inturned rim to provide the guide tip 10.
