Abstract
1,118,918. Processing fish. NORDISCHER MASCHINENBAU RUD. BAADER. 3 Dec, 1965, No. 51414/65. Heading A2U. In a method and apparatus for processing fish, such as cod, pollock, whiting and Norwegian haddock (redfish or rosefish), each fish 6, e.g. supported belly upwards and horizontally on a table 8, is impaled on a spear 1, between the rearmost of its gill arches 14 and its collar-bones 12, and below its gullet 10. The fish, e.g. after having been removed from the table and swivelled into a vertical, suspended position, is moved along the spear by a transverse member 3 of an endless, travelling chain conveyer (shown in chain-dotted outline in Fig. 1) to meet a knife 4, which passes transversely through the fish, just above the spear. The knife 4 is then moved away from the gullet, e.g. swung upwardly about a pivot, to cut through the skin 16, between the rearmost gill arch and the collar-bones 12, and sever the lower maxilla 13 from the collar-bones. The knife 4 emerges from the fish at the isthmus 17. The fish is then moved to a rotating disc cutter 5, which passes through the cut already made and makes a cut through the gullet 10 towards the spinal column 11. The fish is finally removed from the spear by the conveyer. A guide 2 may contact the end of the fish during its movement towards and past the knife 4.
