Abstract

1,118,575. Record cards. TECHNICON INSTRUMENTS CORP. 6 March, 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 10411/67. Heading G4M. A card bearing machine-readable indicia, e.g. holes 22 may be divided into a main portion 18 and a plurality of sub-portions 20 along scored or embossed lines 12, and each sub-portion has a set of indentical code notches 16. Notches 16 and holes 22 may represent the identity of a patient, and the sub-portions 20 may be attached to sample containers relating to that patient by means of an elastic band looped through hole 34. The sample container is placed on a rotatable tray, wth the notched edge of the attached "card" protruding. When the container is adjacent a sensing position, a set of sensing wires is swung about a pivot to engage the protruding notched edge of the card and provide an electrical indication of the patient's identity, e.g. when removing some of the sample from the container for analysis.
