Abstract

1,118,431. Handbrake levers. SACKVILLE Ltd. 8 Jan., 1965 [13 Dec., 1963], No. 49251/ 63. Heading F2E. A handbrake lever assembly comprises a lever 10 having an adjuster at its upper end which is connected by a pivoted link 31, extending beyond the lever pivot 12, to a connector pin 33 for a brake-operating cable, the pin 33 engaging slots 34 in the lever mounting plates 11 whereby it is constrained to move towards and away from the lever pivot, and the arrangement being such that when the brake is applied the link passes over dead centre to lock the brake in the applied position. The adjuster comprises a manually rotatable knob 25 having downwardly facing recesses in its lower part which contain spring-loaded balls engageable with depressions in a disc 19 fixed to the tubular upper part 13 of the lever. Rotation of the knob against the initial resistance of the balls rotates a screw-threaded rod 20 to which it is secured so as to adjust the position of a nut formation 27 guided by a pin 29 in slots in the lever. The link 31 is pivoted on this pin and also on the pin 33, and can extend through an open side of the lever when the lever is pivoted away from the over-centre position shown, where it abuts a stop pin 17.
