Abstract

1,118,207. Haymaking machines. TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc. 7 July, 1965 [24 July, 1964; 20 April, 1965], No. 28897/65. Heading A1F. In a haymaking machine, having two contra-rotating rake-heads revolving, side by side, about parallel axes inclined to the horizontal and supported by groundwheels 7 located below the rake-heads, each rake-head is provided with tines 23 which extend parallel to a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rakehead and which are spaced at different distances from that plane. The machine frame comprises a cross-bar 1 integral with two transversely-spaced supports 2 carrying fixed axles 4, the lower end of each axle being supported by a wheel 7 lying mainly in advance of the axle. A sleeve 10 is driven by bevel gearing from a gearbox 33A connected to the tractor (not shown) which tows the machine through a drawbar 30 adjustable about an intermediate vertical pivot 29 and a terminal horizontal pivot 28, the latter adjustment being effected by a threaded crank 44. Hairpin-shaped tines 23 are mounted on four equally-spaced plates 15 pivoted to spokes 11 carried by the sleeve 10. The upper edge of each plate 15 is resiliently supported by a spring-encircled rod 16 from the upper part of the sleeve 10, the support being capable of passing over-centre (left-hand side of Figure) enabling the rake-heads to be folded up for transport. Feelers 24 secured to the plates 15 maintain the tine-system in contact with the crop. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the tines are adjustable by movement of the plates about axes parallel to the sleeve 10, the adjustment about horizontal axes being then omitted. In a further modification (Fig. 8, not shown) each spoke 11 is downwardly cranked, and terminates in a groundengaging shoe, the tines being secured to the cranked part of the spoke and the spring-encircled rod to the radial part thereof.
