Abstract
1,116,602. Automatic circuit breakers. DORMAN & SMITH Ltd. 10 Jan., 1966 [26 Jan., 1965], No. 3290/65. Heading H1N. A polyphase circuit breaker of the kind described in Specification 1,116,601, having a plurality of parallel connected contacts, is assembled from a plurality of smaller single or multipole circuit breakers. As shown three three-pole circuit breakers are coupled together by the device described in Specification 1,116,601, for conjoint operation and the terminals of each small breaker are connected together by a conducting plate to which cables 46, 47 can be connected. Coupling bars (33), (Figs. 3-5, not shown) extending between each adjacent pair of small breakers cause all the contacts to be tripped open upon an overload current flowing through any one pair of contacts. The couplng bars (33) carry arms (37) spring-biased into engagement with the releasable arms (19) (Fig. 4) of each small breaker so that when the arms (19) are released the bars (33) pivot to drive rods (39) to tilt the common trip bars (21) of each small breaker. Each pole of each small breaker is generally similar to those described in Specification 1,116,601.
