Abstract
1,116,234. Continuous casting-machines. MANNESMANN A.G. 11 Aug., 1965 [11 Aug., 1964], No. 34417/65. Heading B3F. Metal slabs of substantially rectangular crosssection are continuously cast in a mould having grooves on the inner surface of its wider sides, the grooves converging downwardly corresponding with the contraction of the cast slab, thereby enabling a crack-free product to be obtained. The grooves are preferably disposed symmetrically about the central vertical axis of the surface, and the convergence of successive grooves increases away from this axis, preferably at an angle to this axis of 0 degrees 1 minute- 0 degrees 40 minutes. Each groove may be formed of two flanks inclined by different amounts to the wall surface, the steeper preferably being the further from this axis and at 45-90 degrees to the wall surface. The ratio of the least inclined flank width to the steep flank width may be 3: 30, and the steeper flank of the groove may have a width of 1-20 mm.
