Abstract

1,116,191. Picking up stones. G. GUGENHAN. 20 July, 1965 [22 July, 1964], No. 30812/65. Heading AlF. A stone-picker comprises a tractordrawn vehicle having a mechanicallydriven pick-up roller 7 with peripheral toothed combs 12 and a receptacle 17 for receiving the picked-up stones, the receptacle being mounted on a wheeled main frame 1 and the roller on a floating subframe 1<SP>1</SP>, the roller being driven oppositely to the direction of rotation of the groundwheels 4 supporting the main frame so that the combs 12 move in the direction of travel of the machine when they are adjacent to the ground and are forced backwardly against spring-loading whereby they tend to flick the stones upwardly upon release of ground-resistance. The roller is driven from the tractor through a transmission 2 to a gearbox 3 and thence by a belt or chain drive 9, the sub-frame being pivoted to the main frame about the axis of the output shaft 9a of the gearbox and being supported at the rear on heightadjustable wheels 10. The combs 12 are mounted on shafts 13 which extend between discs 11 and are encircled by torsionsprings 14. The stones are flicked against a mesh screen 15 and pass over it to fall on to an endless belt 6 which delivers them over a perforated reciprocating grating 16 into the receptacle 17. The receptacle has a transverse endless band floor 18 which can be operated, to discharge it, by power from the tractor.
