Abstract
1,116,096. Discharge lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. 23 Nov., 1965 [23 Nov., 1964], No. 49804/65. Heading H1D. An arc discharge lamp, particularly a fluorescent lamp, has at least one of its electrodes 8 coated with emissive material and connected, within the envelope, via lead-in wire 3, to a conductor 14 extending to the envelope stem 2 and into the sealed-off exhaust tube 13, so that when the emissive material is consumed by lamp operation, the arc strikes to conductor 14 producing a glow discharge which breaches the tube 13, causing the arc to be extinguished before further damage occurs. The conductor 14 may be of nickel and may be coiled.
