Abstract

1,115,796. Piles; ground anchors; boring earth &c. K. H. BAUER. 13 April, 1965 [4 April, 1965], No. 15663/65. Headings E1B, E1F and E1H. A method of making a screw tension-pile, or ground anchor, in situ includes the steps of driving a helical cutter. Fig. 1, into the ground by rotating a hollow driving-shaft or pipe 5 connected to the cutter while injecting a hardenable material, e.g. concrete containing a synthetic resin, into the helical cavity formed by the cutter, Fig. 2 (not shown), passing a tie-rod 6, Fig. 4, through said pipe, engaging the end of the tie-rod with screw-threads 1 on the cutter, withdrawing the pipe 5 and filling the space left thereby with the said material. The method may include the further steps of retracting the cutter by applying a tensile load to the tie-rod before the pipe 5 is withdrawn so as to compress the adjacent ground and form a substantially cylindrical cavity (7), Fig. 3 (not shown), which is situated at the lowermost end of the helical cavity, returning the cutter to its former position and filling the cavity (7) with said material. Filling of the said cavities is effected through the pipe 5 and bores 2, 3 in the cutter. The tie-rod 6 may be provided with a coating of a synthetic plastics material to minimize corrosion and to reduce friction relative to the said material.
