Abstract

A sprayed coating of aluminium containing 1%-10% by weight of oxide is formed on a carbon article such as a carbon anode for an aluminium reduction cell by directing a stream of molten aluminium into an air stream under conditions of temperature and exposure time such as to produce the required oxide content. The coating thickness may be between 1/64 - 1/8 inches and the aluminium spray may be passed through a reducing flame to control the oxide content.
