Abstract

1,113,587. Spray carburetters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 28, 1966 [Sept. 16, 1965], No. 33878/66. Heading F1B. [Also in Division G3] The fuel flow to a nozzle 32 is controlled by a fluid amplifier comprising a fuel inlet 20, fed from a float chamber 22, and a splitter 26 dividing the fuel flow into two outlets 28, 26, the amount of fuel flowing into path 26 increasing as the suction at Venturi throat 16 increases. The space above the fuel in float chamber 22 is subject through passage 36 to Venturi throat suction, an orifice 38 delaying the response upon sudden throttle opening to enrich the mixture for acceleration. A bias port 34 on the opposite side of the amplifier from outlet 26 is connected to atmosphere through orifice 52 and to Venturi 16 through passage 48 so that the flow is corrected for atmospheric pressure variations. A valve 42, held closed by intake manifold suction acting through passage 44, opens at full throttle to admit atmospheric pressure to the float chamber to enrich the mixture.
