Abstract

1,112,066. Packaging machine; endless conveyers. O. HÍFLIGER, and R. KARG, [trading as HÍFLIGER & KARG]. 14 Dec., 1966 [15 Dec., 1965], No. 55905/66. Headings B8A and B8C. Vacuum drawn pockets, formed in a web, are filled from overhead buckets carried on a conveyer moving synchronously with the web. In the embodiment shown, sheeting, hot-air heated at 5 is drawn into recesses 7 in a drum as the recesses pass a vacuum duct 10, the process being aided by compressed air from a nozzle 6. Compressed air supplied in a further duct 11 assists removal and cooling of the web. As the pockets reach a filling station 14 conveyercarried buckets 17 discharge through camoperated bottom flaps 18 to fill the packets with, e.g. macaroni. Cover sheeting 24 is applied and sealed by a roller 25 and individual packings are separated by a cutter 31. A further cutter 34 breaks up the residual sheeting. The buckets are loaded from hoppers 20 having ducts opened by a slide plate 21. The cover may be high-frequency welded.
