Abstract

1,110,945. Valves; change-speed control. LAYCOCK ENGINEERING Ltd. 4 Nov., 1964 [4 Nov., 1963], No.43385/63. Headings F2D and F2V. In a valve to control the hydraulic actuation of a movable clutch member of an epioyclic gear, wherein a supply valve 5 is moved off a seat 19 by a solenoid actuated lever 15 through a hollow rod 3 to allow fluid to pass from an inlet 9 through passageways 10 and 16 to the actuating piston 18, the exhaust from the cylinder 17 being effected when the rod is returned and the ball 5 seated by a spring 7, and the end of the rod 3 is moved off the ball to allow fluid to escape through the rod and out through a port 14, a permanent by pass passage 11 and 12 leads from the inlet 9 around the valve which continues to allow flow when the valve is exhausting from the cylinder 17. The port 14 is of considerably greater size than that required to restrict the desired return velocity of the piston 18, and the size relationship between the passageway 11 and port 14 is such as to provide an effective restriction. The invention removes the need for a small exhaust port which can become clogged by foreign particles.
