Abstract
1,110,935. Stripping insulation. Z. BIEGANSKI, and H. BIEGANSKI. 17 March, 1966 [17 Dec., 1964], No. 51438/64. Heading H2C. In the cable stripper shown, closure of handles 23 operates through toggle linkage 19 to close a pair of jaws 11 to grip the insulation while inner jaws 15 are carried in by the outer ones to cut partly through the insulation. When the resistance to the jaw movement becomes sufficient the central bars 18 of the toggles force member 18 downwardly carrying with it a rod 17 against the action of spring 22. The rod is coupled to the severing jaws 15 which thus pull away from the gripping jaws to strip the severed insulation. In other arrangements (Figs. 2-1, not shown), each handle is pivoted to the member 18 by a single lever. In this case the tool is gripped near the head to sever the insulation and near the end to strip it. The inner and outer jaws are mounted on leaf springs. In a further arrangement (Figs. 5-7, not shown), each handle consists of a lever in two parts pivoted together at the lower end and coupled through a cross link at the upper. The inner parts operate the cutting action and the outer control the stripping.
