Abstract

A yarn winding machine has haul pulleys or other means for feeding yarn at a constant speed from the let-off package to the take-up package, the yarn feeding means being driven by a variable speed mechanism. As described the spindle of the take-up package is driven through a slipping clutch at a constant speed, with the traverse guide being swung away from the spindle by the growing package and being connected to the variable speed mechanism to alter the speed thereof so that the yarn is fed to the package by the haul pulleys at a speed equal to the increasing peripheral speed of the package. The torque load at which the clutch slips may be varied during winding as in specification 1,110,766.
