Abstract

The invention comprises water-insoluble dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:1110714/C4-C5/1> wherein A is a C1-C6 alkylene radical; Z is a C1-C4 alkyl radical or is hydrogen; R is a C1-C4 alkyl radical and the benyene ring T is substituted by a phenyl or phenoxy radical and optionally by a chlorine atom. They are prepared by reacting the corresponding benaldehyde compound with malondinitrile preferably in presence of a solvent e.g. methanol, and a basic compound e.g. ammonia, secondary amine or an alkali metal alcoholate at temperatures between 20 DEG C. and the boiling point of the solvent. The dyestuffs dye cellulose acetate, polyamides and polyesters by disperse dyeing processes in yellow-green shades.ALSO:Derivatives of p-aminobenzaldehydes of the general formula <FORM:1110714/C2/1> wherein A is a C1-C6 alkylene radical, Z is hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl radical; R is a C1-C4 alkyl radical and the benzene ring T is substituted by a phenyl or phenoxy radical and optionally by a chlorine atom are prepared by reacting a compound of general formula <FORM:1110714/C2/2> wherein A, R, T and Z are as defined above with phosphorus oxychloride in dimethyl formamide.
