Abstract
1,110,013. Tension control means. KIEVSKY ZAVOD "STROIDORMASH". 3 May, 1965, No. 18582/65. Heading DID. The tension in the thread 12 is hydraulically controlled. The spool 11 is rotated by a hydraulic motor 10 fed by a variable capacity pump 1. The pump 1 is initially set at minimum output by a spring biassed piston 3 in a cylinder 2. When the pump 1 is started up it feeds liquid via one of the valves 24, 25 and the cylinder 23 to the cylinder 2 to displace the piston 3 against its spring and so increase the output of the pump 1 to a value that will start up the motor 10 and initiate winding of the thread 12 onto the spool 11. The thread 12 passes under a roller 13 coupled to a housing 14. The housing 14 is biassed downwardly by a spring 15. Acting on the housing 14 in a piston 19 in a cylinder 17. If the tension in the thread 12 increases it raises the roller 13 and thus the housing 14. This permits the piston 19 to rise and the liquid then flows from the cylinder 2 to the cylinder 17 and thus the spring biassed piston 3 is able to move to a setting giving a reduced output of the pump I. This reduces the speed of the motor 10 and thus reduces the tension in the thread 12. If, for some reason, the tension should continue to rise the resulting upward movement of the housing 14 causes a cam 21 to displace a valve assembly in the cylinder 23 in a manner venting line 20 drain line 26 thus reducing still further the pressure on the piston 3. The setting of the cam 21 on the housing 14 is adjustable.
