Abstract

1,109,827. Measuring temperature electrically. ROUND HILL ASSOCIATES Inc. March 30, 1967, No. 14477/67. Heading G1N. A thermistor for use as a clinical thermometer is incorporated in a manually balanced bridge circuit whose adjusting potentiometer is associated with a digital dial. The apparatus is calibrated against a standard thermocouple. The thermistor thermometer 10 Fig.1 comprises a thermistor T connected by leads 20 to a resistance bridge in a housing 12. Unbalance is shown on meter M and removed by rotation of a knob 18 attached to a balancing potentiometer and rotatable scale 14. Initial calibration is effected by locating the thermistor T and a standard thermocouple 40 Fig. 3 in a chamber 38 subjected to a heating cycle via a heating source 42 and a heat exchanger 46. The thermocouple output is amplified at 50 to drive printing means 54; the thermistor bridge output, fed by jack 22 from the unbalance diagonal, is amplified at 56 to energize a servomotor 58 mechanically coupled to knob 18 to balance the bridge. At balance actuator 62 moves the housing 12 up to the printing means 54, and the thermocouple temperature is printed on the scale 14.
