Addition to 1.049,371. Heading F4G. In apparatus for drying ceramic ware W according to Specification 1,049,371, the transfer means for removing the ware from moulds M on a first conveyer to a second conveyer comprises a first suction device 148 mounted on an arm 100 arranged to engage the central portion of the article and remove it from the mould, and a second suction device 136 on an arm 126 arranged to contact a brim portion of the article and lift that portion from the mould prior to transfer by the first suction device. The first suction device 148 is secured to a spring-urged finger 104 pivotally mounted about a pin 106 on the arm 100 by a spring urged hollow spindle 118 connected to reduced air pressure source (not shown). The second suction device 136 is also secured to a finger 126 pivotally mounted about a pin 128 on a depending boss of the arm 100 by a second hollow spindle 134 coupled to the same reduced pressure source. The finer 126 is capable of only limited pivotal movement about the pin 128 between a first position in which its forward end engages the underside of the arm 100 and an adjustable position in which a screw 130 secured by a locknut 132 in a rear portion of the finger engages the arm 100. The arm 100 is mounted on a horizontal shaft 102 having a cam which, as the transfer means moves between the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2, actuates a valve through which the air is withdrawn from the suction devices. The shaft 102 also carries a rocking arm 140 arranged to engage the upper surface of a shelf 20 of the first conveyer and rock it away from the suction device 136 after the device has engaged the brim portion to assist in separating the ware from the moulds. Heated compressed air may also be supplied through nozzles in a tube (not shown) parallel to the shaft to assist in separating the ware and moulds.
