Abstract

1,109,329. Switch contacts. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. 20 Sept., 1966 [13 Oct., 1965], No. 41966/66. Heading H1N. [Also in Division H2] Electric current is carried between a tubular conductor 30 (Fig. 3) and a relatively movable conductor such as C1 disposed within it by a plurality of balls arranged in an annular space formed in the tube 30 and biased into contact with the conductor C1 and a bevelled end of the space (see Division H2). The arrangement may be employed as a rectilinear or rotary circuit-breaker mechanism. As shown, a shaft C1 is rectilinearly or reciprocally operated by a mechanism 100 and has a shaped end 128 to enter between resiliently mounted contacts 22 to make and break the current path between a line L1 and a line L2 connected through a conductor 22 attached to the tube 30 by a nut 24. In another arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown), the shaft (C2) is mounted in bearings (212), (214) and the tube (30) carries a switch blade, in place of the conductor 22 (Fig. 3), arranged to be rotated into or out of engagement with fixed contacts (222).
