Abstract

1,107,634. Cutting tools. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [1 July, 1965], No. 27932/65. Headings B3B and B3C. A cutting tool for turning or boring having a replaceable tip 13 comprises a shank 1 provided at one end with a tip mounting surface 2, a pin 9 which extends from the surface 2 for engagement with a central aperture 11 in the tip, an abutment member 17 for engagement with one of the unexposed side faces of the tip, the abutment member being in the form of a screw which engages the shank and has a freely rotatable head portion 17B with a flat thereon, and a further screw member 19 with a cam head which engages the shank to effect locking the tip on the shank by co-operation with the pin 9 and the abutment 17. To assemble the cutting tool, the tip is placed over the pin 9 on the surface 2 with one of its side faces engaging the flat on the abutment 17, the screw member is then turned so that its cam head engages a side face of the tip which is rotated about the pin until tightly engaging the abutment 17 so that the tip is held securely between the cam head abutment and pin. To release the tip the cam screw is rotated in the opposite direction thus permitting the changing of the tip or reorientation thereof to present a new cutting edge to a workpiece. The tip may be square, triangular or rhomboidal in shape.
