Abstract
A magnetostrictive assembly for switches or other equipment has laminations having different magnetostrictive coefficients and one arranged to compensate for temperature effects on the other two. An example of an alloy having a high coefficient of thermal expansion and a magnetostrictive coefficient of practically zero is 72% Mr, 18% Cu, 10% Ni. Examples of alloys having high positive magnetostrictive coefficients are 49% Co, 49% Fe, 2% V and 52% Co, 38% Fe, 10% V. Examples of alloys having high negative coefficients are 20% Co, 80% Ni and 90% Co, 10% Ni.
