Abstract

1,107,184. Control of motors. STOPMOTION DEVICES CORPORATION. 23 March, 1965, No. 12204/65. Heading H2J. A protective system for a knitting machine which is operated by motor 40 comprises faultdetector switches 10, 12, 14, 16 associated with signal lamps 17, 18, 20, shunted by resistors 22, 24, 26, each having a high value. Closure of any detector switch lights an associated lamp and energizes relays 32 and 43 to stop the motor. The lamp-circuit is supplied with half-wave current through rectifier 34, and, during alternate half-waves, the relay 32 is supplied through rectifier 31 provided that one of the detector switches is closed. A capacitor 33 maintains energization of the relay 32. In another arrangement, a transistor is connected in series with the protective relay and serves as an amplifier. The protective relay may be of the power type for direct control of the motor. Another modification employs an input current which is unidirectional and pulsating. An additional capacitor is discharged through the protective relay and shunt capacitor when a detector switch is closed.
