Abstract

1,106,531. Boundary layer control. HAWKER SIDDELEY AVIATION Ltd. 15 March, 1965 [16 March, 1964], No. 11020/64. Heading F2R. An arrangement for improving boundary layer conditions over the surface 11 of an aerodynamic body comprises the formation of an ionised sub boundary layer 12 next to a dielectric outer skin 13 the ionised layer being hindered from leaving the surface by electrostatic or electromagnetic forces created by plates 14 below the surface and charged by a generator 15. Apparatus is described for generating a stream of ionised gas for discharge over the body surface.
