Abstract

1,106, 037. Steam turbines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 22, 1966 [May 26, 1965], No. 22404/65. Heading F1T. Pipes 5 connecting a higher pressure cylinder of a steam turbine with a lower pressure cylinder 4', 4" arranged on the same horizontal axis as the higher pressure cylinder each comprise a portion which is located above the horizontal axis, between vertical planes defining the axial ends of the cylinder 4', 4" and outside the vertical projection of the vertically removable upper half 4". This allows the upper half 4" and the rotor 12 to be removed vertically without fouling the pipe 5, after removal of a casing lid 9'. A steam reheater 8 and a water separator (7) Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) may be provided in a horizontal portion of each pipe 5 and in a vertical portion, respectively, or vice-versa. Each pipe may be branched to connect to each of a pair of doubleflow cylinders 4', 4". Condensers 10 may be located alongside the cylinders 4', 4", as shown, or below them. Instead of being connected to the upper halves 4" of these cylinders, the pipes 5 may be connected to the top halves. In this case, a removable section (13) Fig. 5 (not shown) may be provided in the portion of each pipe (5) contained within the casing (9); or each pipe (5) may have a portion immediately adjacent the cylinder which can be disconnected from the remainder of the pipe at a flanged joint which is disposed vertically or inclined upwardly and outwardly.
