Abstract
1,105,438. Two-part couplings for ignition circuits. AMP Inc. 6 July, 1966 [4, Aug., 1965], No. 30244/66. Heading H2E. An electrical connector for making releasable connection with a distributer socket or sparkplug stem comprises a sheet metal blank rolled to form a ferrule to crimp about a wire and a tubular contact element having two overlapping portions retained by latch means to provide a double wall thickness throughout the length of the tube. The contact element 1c has overlapping sides 8, 9 retained by engagement of pressed out tongues 18 on one side with corresponding holes 20 in the other, and part of one side is bent to form a shoulder 8a to prevent excessive relative movement of the overlapping portions when mating.with a distributer socket. A detent 10 is provided for engagement with the groove in a spark-plug stem. A portion la of the ferrule has sides 14 with hooked ends 16<SP>1</SP> which are crimped about the high tension wire to contact the strands 6 and bite into the wire insulation, a semi-cylindrical portion of the insulation having been removed. The ferrule 1b has tabs 2 which bite into the wire insulation and interlock in dovetail fashion, and lances or pimples 4 which also grip the wire insulation.
