Abstract

[Also in Division G3] In web-roll changing apparatus, where the peripheral speed of the replacement web-roll 3 is matched with the speed of the running web 1 by a system including two tachometers 4 and 8 and a regulator 5, the output of which influences the armature voltage of a direct-current motor 7 driving an endless belt 6, the pre-printed webs are registered before splicing. With the speeds matched, there is first stored in a length counter LZ a value (pulses emitting from a pulse generator 10, 11) corresponding to the peripheral distance between register marks P1 and P2, known as the register length L, Fig. 1. This occurs during a single revolution of the web-roll 3, denoted by the period A ,in Fig. 1. At the beginning of the period B in Fig. 1, pulses I supplied by the pulse generator 10, 11, pass to the forward counting input, denoted by the " + ", of a bidirectional pulse counter IZ. Each time the reading of the pulse counter reaches that of the length counter LZ, the reading of the pulse counter IZ is reset to zero by the output signal of a coincidence circuit 21 through a conductor 22. At each revolution of the web-roll 3, a pulse from register mark P1, emanating from a scanning device 14, passes through an evaluating circuit 19 to the input of a revolution counter UZ and increases the reading of this counter. After a particular number of U roll revolutions the counter UZ gives an output signal u, Fig. 2, after which the process indicated by the period C, Fig. 1, commences. The signal u prepares a coincidence circuit 23 through a bi-stable trigger stage 25 and changes the pulse counter IZ for backward counting. Pulses I now received by the pulse counter thus affect a reduction of its reading R remaining at the end of the period B. When the reading reaches zero, the counter is reset to forward counting and from this instant onwards, the successive subtraction of the valve L takes place in exactly the same way as during the period B. In addition, at a coincidence between the readings of the counters LZ and IZ, there appears at the output of coincidence circuit 23, a pulse S which is applied as an actual value signal to a register regulator 17. The desired value signal of the latter is the pulse train which is supplied via a device 15 scanning the register marks on the running web 1. The regulator 17 influences via conductor 27, in a phase regulation sense, the speed regulator 5, so that the webs are registered at the end of the period C after U revolutions, when there appears at the output 28 of the counter UZ a signal which produces a splicing order.
