Abstract
1,105,062. Textile treating apparatus. H. G. TRUPP. 26, April, 1965 [27, April, 1964], No. 17474/65. Heading D1L. A process for treating textile materials comprises the steps of preheating the textile material and maintaining the temperature of the preheated textile material while spraying with finely atomised treating liquid, which steps and subsequent steps including drying and setting are performed within continuous enclosures which prevent ingress of air from the ambient atmosphere. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises, in linear alignment, a steam chamber 3 for preheating the material, a spraying trough 4, and drying and setting chambers 6, 7 respectively, the ingress of air to any part of the material being treated being prevented by gastrap openings between the various chambers. The chambers 3, 4, 6 and 7 constitute a unit and a plurality of such units may be arranged with related washing units and vacuum drying units. The spraying trough 4 comprises a heated enclosure 25 housing a plurality of oscillatable atomizing nozzles 26. A heating channel 5 equipped with infrared heaters 31 may be interposed between the spraying trough 4 and the drying chamber 6. The drying chamber 6 preferably employs counter-flow hot air drying techniques. The setting chamber 7 may employ steam, or steam and vapourised organic solutions or alcohol vapour. A sump 34 is provided in the setting chamber 7 for the organic solution or alcohol. The setting chamber 7 is preferably also provided with withdrawable isolating plates according to whether steam or steam with added vapour is used. Jets 48 introducing hot air may also be provided. A temperature within the range 100‹C to 220‹C is preferably maintained in the setting chamber. In a preferred embodiment, the material after leaving the setting chamber passes through, in order, a second spraying trough, an airing device, a second steaming chamber, a series of washing units and vacuum drying units, a third spraying trough, a drying chamber and a final setting chamber which may be used for cooling.
