Abstract

1,104,919. Tongs. NIELD'S PATENTS Ltd. 31 Oct., 1966 [22 Nov., 1965], No. 49583/65. Heading B4W. [Also in Division E2] Hinged kitchen tongs comprise a pair of arms 1, 7 made of flexible resilient, synthetic plastics material provided with complementary projections and recesses which can be snapped together during assembly to constitute a hinge and snapped apart to separate the arms for cleaning. The jaw portion 2 of the arm 1 is formed as a perforated plate and the jaw portion 8 of the arm 7 as a spoon. The jaw portion 2 is joined by the two limbs of a bifurcation 3 to the handle 4, the limbs of the bifurcation each being provided with a hole 6, the holes being coaxial. The jaw portion 8 is joined by a neck 9 to the handle 10, the neck 9 being provided with aligned studs 12 of such a size as to be complementary to the holes 6. Each handle is triangular in cross-section, the base of the triangle corresponding to a flattened broadened portion 15 or 16 provided at the back of the handle. The jaws may be constituted as gripping forks.
