A container for powdered materials comprises a casing 1, a cover 2 with a filling hole and cap 3 and a central outlet at its lower end. The casing 1 has an inner lining 4 of resiliently flexible material 4 with an upper portion 4a clamped under the cover 2 and a lower conical portion 4b joined to a tubular shoot 6 passing through the outlet. The shoot 6 is composed of flexible material and a control valve is provided by parallel bars 7 operated by a handle 9. When the container is filled the lower portion 4b is deformed against the casing and the upper portion 4a stretched, thereby providing maximum storage volume in the casing. At a certain stage during the emptying of the container the weight of the remaining contents is such that the lower portion 4b of the lining gradually recovers its original conical form, forming a shoot or funnel to assist discharge of the contents. With some fine powdery material, the material may not flow when the outlet valve is initially opened. This difficulty is overcome by a helical spring 17 suspended from brackets 18 and expanded downwardly by pulling on a handle 22 to cut a core in the material which falls through the outlet. Thereafter the material flows readily. The amount of material remaining in the container at any moment during use is indicated by a pointer 15 cooperating with a scale 16. The pointer is attached to a line 11 anchored at 12 and deflected by the deformation of the lining 4.
