Abstract

1,104,222. Latches. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. 15 Dec., 1966 [16 Dec., 1965], No. 53537/ 65. Heading E2A. A latch for a door comprises a pivotally mounted latch member 3 and a blade spring 10 which in cocked position is bowed to hold the latch member in an unlatching position and a trip member, a sliding bar 18 for engagement with the door frame or a member fixed thereto on door closure, the resultant displacement of the trip member acting to move the spring overcentre to a tripped bowed position with accompanying movement of the latch member to a latching position in which it is then retained by the spring. When an actuating lever 27, which is pivoted below the latch member on a back plate 1, is rotated, a pin 29 thereon engages the latch member 3 and rotates it to unlatching position simultaneously moving the spring 10 overcentre to retain the latch member in unlatching position. The actuating lever 27 is also rotated to release a second latch member 4 provided with a blade spring 12 and which holds the door in the open position. The sliding bar 18 has two projections 20, 22 for tripping the springs, to rotate the latch members to latching positions. Alternatively a stop may project from the door frame. Instead of a sliding bar the latch members may be operated by a blade lever pivoted to the outer side of each blade spring. One end of each blade spring 10, 12 passes through a diametral slot in a boss 16 of a latch member and is anchored below the pivot of the latch member, the other end is anchored to the back plate 1. A rotary inside locking member 32 above the actuating lever 27 is actuated to block the actuating lever and the latch member.
