Abstract

1-Bromo-2-phenylethane is prepared by the addition of phosphorus tribromide to b -phenyl ethanol at a temperature of from 60 DEG to 85 DEG C. wherein a stoichiometric amount of phosphorus tribomide is reacted at 60-85 DEG C. with the b -phenyl ethanol and the 1-bromo-2-phenylethane is separated from the phosphorus acid formed.
