Abstract

1,102,054. Collision prevention. M. E. L. EQUIPMENT CO. Ltd. 2 March, 1966 [27 April, 1965], No. 17670/65. Heading B7N. Apparatus for preventing the collision of two vehicles e.g. cranes operating on the same stretch of track comprises a pair of segmented lines 3, 4 extending adjacent the track which are arranged such that one segment of each opposed pair is directly connected to a power line 1 and the other segment is connected to the other power line 2 via a detector 7 and slider means on each vehicle whereby the detector is energized via a circuit on the vehicle when the vehicle enters the corresponding portion of track. Each detector e.g. that associated with sector N is connected with the detectors of adjacent sectors (N + 1, N - 1) to a logic circuit 8 which provides an output when either adjacent sectors are occupied or N + 1 and N - 1 are occupied. Assume two vehicles A and B are operating on the track, A to the left of B, the contactors AF controlling movement of vehicle A in the forward (right) direction and BR controlling movement of vehicle B in the reverse (left) direction are energized by the respective drivers via gate circuits in unit 9 which are opened when a logic circuit 8 signals the above described condition and the brakes of each vehicle are applied. This condition is however overridden when the vehicles are travelling in the same direction and also by an inching control.
